Development Awareness Fund

Financial assistance is available for projects with a commitment to meet the internationally agreed target to halve the proportion of people living in extreme poverty by 2015.
The Fund is open to any UK-based organisation or network which shares the DFID's commitment to raising awareness and understanding of development issues and has the capability to account properly for any DFID funds received.
Applications should aim to meet at least one of the programme's four key objectives and will give priority to projects working with new partnerships rather than funding existing partners with projects entering a second phase. Proposals will be assessed against the following criteria:

Adherence to one or more DAF objectives.

Clearly defined and measurable project outcomes.

Clear evidence of need for the project.

Robust project design.

Quality of proposed project management.

Whether the organisation has the capability to implement the project.

Value for money.

Plans for sustaining the project after funding ends.

The deadline for receipt of Concept Notes is 25 September 2009, and the deadline for full proposals is 30 November 2009. Funding for successful projects will be from April 2010.
For the latest information, consult the DFID website: http://www.dfid.gov.uk/
EU - Life Funding

LIFE is the EU's financial instrument supporting environmental and nature conservation projects throughout the EU, as well as in some candidate, acceding and neighbouring countries.
Since 1992, LIFE has co-financed some 2,750 projects, contributing approximately €1.35 billion to the protection of the environment. The third LIFE+ call for proposals has been published on 15 May 2009, with up to €250 million available for co-financing of projects under three headings:
▪ Nature and biodiversity; environment policy and governance and information and communication.
Project proposals should be sent to the relevant national authority no later than 15 September 2009.
Thereafter, national authorities will send project proposals on to the European Commission by 22 October 2009, and the Commission will check the outline projects against the LIFE+ eligibility criteria and will assess proposals on the basis of the LIFE+ selection and award criteria.
Project promoters are encouraged to make best use of the time available up to the deadline for submission of proposals to national authorities (15 September).
Project proposals should be carefully checked to ensure that they are in line with all the criteria set out in the call documents available on:
http://ec.europa.eu/environment/life/index.htm
You can also download application packages for the LIFE+ components:

LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity supports projects that contribute to the implementation of the EU's Birds and Habitats Directives, and that contribute to the EU's goal of halting the loss of biodiversity. The maximum co-financing rate can be 75 percent, but is normally 50 percent.

LIFE+ Environment Policy and Governance supports technological projects that offer significant environmental benefits, for example process or efficiency improvements. This part of LIFE+ also helps projects that improve the implementation of EU environmental legislation, that build the environmental policy knowledge base, and that develop environmental information sources through monitoring (including forest monitoring). Projects can be co-financed up to a level of 50 percent.

LIFE+ Information and Communication co-finances up to 50 percent projects that spread information about environmental issues, such as climate change and conservation. This strand of LIFE+ can also support forest fire prevention awareness and training campaigns.
