The colourful Local Global event held on Saturday 6th March was a celebration of the many diverse cultures in our communities in Mid Sussex.
Global LocalThe packed hall at the Methodist Church in Haywards Heath were taken around the world with cultural dances, songs and music which included performers from the Philippines, South Africa, India and Kenya.
The finale performance was from children from Halsford Park Primary School who sang four songs including 'I want to teach the world to sing.' Exotic food was also provided by many different cultural groups giving the audience a tasty flavour of the world right here in Mid Sussex on their doorstep.
Local Global was organised by Mid Sussex District Council, the EESI project, West Sussex County Council, and the Councils for Voluntary Service, plus representatives from our community groups and supported by Sussex Community Foundation.
Due to the enormous success of the event, preparations are already underway for a bigger and better Local Global event for 2011.
Global LocalThe event was also an opportunity to launch the Mid Sussex Diversity Forum which has been set up as a platform to provide advice and information to support the different communities in Mid Sussex and to foster an appreciation of our rich diversity of cultures.
