'Reaching for Gold' Competition

"Reaching for Gold" is a new competition to encourage innovation and creativity in young people - essential skills for the industries that will lead us out of recession. 14-19 year olds across the South East are invited to put forward ideas that can make a practical difference to society. The themes for the competition are Youth, Community and Disability.

Aiming High for Disabled Children

Aiming High for Disabled Children is jointly funded by the Department of Children, Schools and Families and the Department of Health, providing transformation funding for the provision of increased Short Breaks. Funding has been made available to local authorities for 2008/9 to 2010/11. 


Big Lottery - Myplace fund update


The Big Lottery Fund are planning to launch a second myplace funding round in June 2009 to invest a further £31.6m through grants in youth facilities. Grants will range as before between £1m-£5m. However, there are a number of significant changes to the application procedure. More information to following:

Big Lottery Fund Improving Your Chances Event for Helper Agencies

We would like to invite you to our next quarterly event for helper agencies in the South East region. This event will focus on 'Improving Your Chances' with particular attention on outcomes and evidencing need. We will also give a short update with news from the Big Lottery Fund.

Big Lottery launches Community Wildlife Programme

Big Lottery Fund's new programme for projects that bring local people together to discover, enjoy and protect the wildlife in their local area.

The programme is now open to a wide range of organisations including voluntary and community organisations, schools, town and parish councils, and statutory health authorities. Grants of between £300 and £10,000 are available for:


Chandlers Building Supplies Community Fund

Chandlers Building Supplies in Petworth has teamed up with the Observer series to launch a Community Fund campaign.

The Chandlers team wants to give something back to the community and every month for the rest of the year will be giving away £500 to local organisations who need a bit of help.


Comic Relief BBC Region Grants

We are pleased to let you know that Sussex Community Foundation has been asked to administer the BBC Region grants from Comic Relief in Sussex for the next two years.

 

These grants are for £15,000 per year for two years and one will be awarded  on a  (very!) competitive basis per region. West Sussex comes within BBC South Region.


Community Cashback/Criminal Justice Board - Funding for Community Projects

COMMUNITY CASHBACK is a new scheme in England and Wales which gives local people a say in how £4 million of recovered criminal assets should be spent in their communities.

 


Criteria for £16.7million hardship fund announced

Earlier this year, a new £16.7m Hardship Fund for the third sector was announced to build on the Real Help for Communities action plan. The fund will provide grant support to third sector organisations in England delivering front-line services to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society who have been affected by the recession.


Development Awareness Fund

Financial assistance is available for projects with a commitment to meet the internationally agreed target to halve the proportion of people living in extreme poverty by 2015.
