  • GET FUNDING: Community action against crime: Innovation fund, encouraging creative new approaches to tackling crime. The Community action against crime: innovation fund will encourage effective partnerships to get everybody working together to tackle crime. It will be used to encourage voluntary and communitygroups to work with their community safety partnership to tackle local crime problems, including through co-design and co-delivery of initiatives to cut crime. Applications from grassroots community activists who are not traditional recipients of government grants are encouraged.   • The West Sussex Big Society Fund aims to provide small sums of money to initiatives that encourage people to take an active role in shaping the facilities in their neighbourhoods, boosting volunteering in the community and help run local public services

  • The Social Enterprise Fund is designed to reflect the County Council's 'Minding Our Buisness' programme, which underlines the importance of business within the county. Cash from the fund could, for example, go to enterprises - such as charities and community cooperatives that take over the running of existing County Council services and buildings

  • County Local Committee can give cash boosts to help Big Society type projects via Community Initiatives Funding, which is cash they receive from the County Council to support organisations that enhance their communities

  • South Downs National Park Sustainable Communities Fund - The Sustainable Communities Fund (SCF) is a £400,000 fund which is available to private and public sector organisations including community and voluntary groups which want to deliver projects in the National Park which will contribute to the quality of life now and in the future.   • Sported, the nationwide sports development charity set up by Sir Keith Mills with the support of Seb Coe, will open for membership in Sussex from 18th October. Sported provides funding and guidance to organisations who improve the lives of young people through sport. Membership is free. The service offered to members includes online resources, information and advice, and a small grants scheme. See www.sported.org.uk/ for more information

  • The second round of Sport England's Lottery-funded Iconic Facilities fund opens on 10th October. In the second of three rounds, interested parties can apply for grants of between £250,000 and £3 million from a total of £10 million of National Lottery funding. Interested parties are urged to contact Sport England before applying, to pre-assess eligibility.

  • Trusthouse Charitabe Foundation grants programme supports projects in the UK which address issues in Rural Communities and/or areas of Urban Deprivation. Within these two main headings, they are interested in helping established projects which work in the fields of Community Support; Arts, Education & Heritage; disability & Health Care. Trusthouse gives grants for running costs or one-off capital costs to charities and not-for-profit organisations in accordance with criteria that are regularly reviewed and decided by the Trustees http://www.trusthousecharitablefoundation.org.uk  
  • The Communitybuilders Fund has re-opened and is looking to invest in up to six of the most promising examples of sustainable, community regeneration projects who will become flagship investees for the new era of the Fund. The minimum that can be applied for is £250,000 and the maximum is £750,000.
  • The Surving Winter Appeal aims to raise funds to help elderly and vulnerable people affected by the cold winter. It is estimated that more than 74,000 households are living in fueld pvoerty across Sussex. We are encouraging those who can afford it, to donate their Winter Fuel Payment (between £100 and £300 to support those for whom the Payment is not nearly enough. We will be working through a network of local charities to get the funds where they are needed. Dame Vera Lynn is backing the campaign. She said 'It is a shocking fact that fuel poverty effects many thousands of older and vulnerable people in Sussex, and this campaign is a fantastic way for people to help those who cannot afford to pay their fuel bills and will be at risk this winter. I would encourage who can afford to donate all or part of their of their Winter Fuel Allowane to consider doing so.' Please help us.   • Warm Homes Healthy People Fund for 2011/2012 has just been published on the DH website. The Cold Weather Plan established the Warm Homes, Healty People fund for winter 2011/12 to support local authorities in England to reduce the levels of death and morbidity due to cold housing in the coming winter in partnership with their local community and voluntary sector and statutory organisations.   • Small Grants Programmes - The Healthy Communities Programme began in October 2011 and is now open in our county. It is suitable for projects that:
    -are requesting between £5,000 and £10,000
    -last up to 12 months
    -are based and operate within one of the local society lotteries
    -are run by local charities and community groups with an annual income of less than £75,000 a year

  • Community Business Loan Fund (CBLF) - The Royal Bank of Scotland has launched a £5 million Community Business Loan Fund to help potential and existing social entrepreneurs who are unable to access finance through normal mainstream channels.   • The Nominet Trust £250k Challenge has been launched to support projects that work with older people (65+) to:
    -use the internet to address specific social problems facing older people;
    -design new and better ways for older people to access and use the internet;
    -develop and use technologies familiar to older people that may have internet functionality such as projects that use IPTV or internet radio.

  • Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced an investment of £6m that will develop the social investment market and explore its potential to help tackle issues facing communities and individuals most in need. The £6m 'Next Steps: Supporting Social Investment in England' initiative will see BIG awarding between £40,000 and £1m to social investment proposals that are already in development but are in need of some extra funding to realise their plans. The proposals may need pilot funding to demonstrate to investors that they can deliver returns, or they may be closer to fruition and need funding to put them into practice. The funding is available to organisations acting in the role of commissioner or intermediary as well as frontline organisations who will deliver the interventions to tackle social need.   • Aid for the Aged in Distress (AFTAID) provides grants for older people in need. Individuals, or their family and neighbours, can apply. Caring professions and voluntary organisations can also make referrals. The individual receiving the grant must be:         of state pensionable age (60 years old for women and 65 for men): a UK citizen, residing in the UK: on a lower income and have minimal savins. Grants are not available for ongoing or retrospective payments or repayment of debts. Applications must include written support from care professionals aware of the individual's situation, for example a social worker, doctor or similar professional of the official care services working with the individual.   • Free Packs for Communities to host 'Big Lunch' - The Big Lottery Fund is encouraging people to come together in their communities by holding a 'Big Lunch' and, is making available free packs to help the organisation. The Big Lunch is an initiative that started in 2009, and last year almost 2 million people took part in order to encourage a sense of community where they live.   • The Time to Change grants fund will distribute £2.7 million to approximately 75 projects across England from April 2012 to March 2015. The fund will support projects which challenge stigma and discrimination around mental health in innovative ways.
  •  B&Q donate unsaleable products and waste materials for re-use by recognised community groups. They donate items such as slightly damaged tins of paint, off-cuts of timber, broken tiles for mosaic projects. The items are donated on the understanding that they will be re-used. Items available for donation will vary from store to store.
  • Empty Funds - Communities Minister Andrew Stunell has invited community and voluntary organisations to apply for a share of £100 million that will help revitalise communities and bring the empty homes blighting their areas back into use.

  • Local Giving - there is a partnership in place between Sussex Community Foundation and a website called Localgiving.com. It allows groups who have been betted by Sussex Community Foundation to create a web page on the site and to receive donations directly to their nominated bank account.
